After reading Yvon Chouinard's book "Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman" and becoming inspired by - about how this visionary set up Patagonia Outdoor clothing company - then became aware of the environmental impact a business and active outdoor people can have, and also what they did to address this - we became moved enough to examine our own practices & lifestyles.

One night after several bottles of red wine we wondered what an outdoor instructor, a sales rep & a housewife, who were clearly "part of the problem" could do to become "part of the solution".

We realised that we, as active outdoor enthusiasts who profess to love our planet & treasure the natural environment, actually do more to damage it by travelling to paddle, bike, walk & climb all over the world, than most sedentary individuals who's pastimes revolve round simply walking to their local pub every chance they get.

As the wine flowed we also became aware that although fairly well travelled, some of the best times and adventures we'd experienced, had in fact been right here in the UK.

So an idea was hatched to create a website to make those adventures easy to find, while supporting UK businesses & non profit organisations, in the hope that people will seek adventures nearer their home.

We started our environmental contribution by becoming the 843 member of Yvon Chouinards 1% For The Planet organisation in October 2007, this is a growing collection of businesses worldwide who have pledged to donate 1% of their annual sales to non profit environmental groups & projects.
